The Centre of Cultures, London

The Centre of Cultures is established

a) To promote the relationship between different cultures, through the organization of gatherings and meetings for interchange among people from different cultures with the intention to make each cultures interests and aspirations known, and more importantly, to allow a true dialogue, oriented toward the search for common interests that are present in the hearts of different peoples and individuals.

b) To denounce and struggle against all forms of manifest or covert discrimination, through the development of different kinds of campaigns for improving the present and building a common future; promoting human rights; the free circulation of human beings throughout the planet and the possibility that every one be able to choose the place and conditions in which he or she wants to live.

c) To disseminate the proposals of Universal Humanism the most general proposals of which are characterised as follows:

(1) Placing the human being as the central value and concern, with nothing above the human being and no human being above any other.
(2) Affirming the equality of all people beyond the mere formality of equal rights before the law, to advance toward a world in which there is true equality of opportunity for all.
(3) Recognizing personal and cultural diversity, affirming the characteristics of all peoples and cultures, condemning all discrimination based on economic, racial, ethnic, and cultural differences.
(4) Encouraging any tendency that develops knowledge beyond the limitations imposed on thought by prejudices accepted as absolute or immutable truths.
(5) Affirming the freedom of ideas and beliefs.
(6) Rejecting all forms of violence, understanding that physical violence is not the only such expression, but that in addition, economic violence, racial violence, religious violence, as well as moral and psychological violence, are daily practices which have become deeply entrenched in every region of the planet.

These proposals characterize the thinking and action of Universal Humanism in their most general aspects. They configure a style of life and a way of relating to others embodying the highest of moral values, which can be expressed in this way: “Treat others as you want them to treat you!”

d) To establish permanent contact with communities, minorities, associations and people from different cultures with the interest of jointly disseminating and organizing the activities of the Centre of Cultures.

e) To take contact with the countries of origin of participants in order to disseminate and gather groups of people interested in the study and development of the activities of Universal Humanism.
Who are we?
We are volunteers who dare to dream of a better world and who act to make those dreams a reality. We are optimists who believe in freedom and social progress, fixing our gaze on the future. We are internationalists, aspiring to a universal human nation. We understand the world as a single whole. We seek not a uniform world but a world of multiplicity: diverse in ethnicity, languages and customs; diverse in local and regional autonomy; diverse in ideas and aspirations; diverse in beliefs, whether atheist or religious; diverse in occupations and in creativity.

We search for inspiration in the contributions of many cultures, not only those that today occupy centre stage. Our project is a new world: the creation of a Universal Human Nation.

Who can contribute?

Any person of any religion, culture, language or origin that wants to collaborate in this project and that wants to take part in developing communication among different peoples. There are two minimum conditions for participation. The first is that we will not admit the participation of those who foster discrimination or intolerance. The second is that we will not allow the participation of those who use violence as a methodology of action for imposing their concepts or ideals, no matter how elevated those concepts and ideals may be.
